Ethereum Name Service (ENS) announced on Monday (5th) a collaboration with domain registrar GoDaddy, allowing users to link their domain names to ENS. The partnership aims to bridge the traditional Domain Name System (DNS) protocol used by all websites with blockchain-based domain names.

This collaboration will bridge the gap between traditional DNS and blockchain technology, without requiring users to incur additional costs or possess specialized technical knowledge. Linking DNS with ENS will enable over 20 million GoDaddy users to benefit from ENS blockchain infrastructure, such as receiving cryptocurrency payments.

ENS is the most widely used naming protocol in the crypto space, allowing users to associate human-readable names (e.g. bob.eth) with long and complex Ethereum addresses, similar to the function of DNS in website URLs.

GoDaddy noted that the collaboration will enable users to connect their domains (e.g. .com) to ENS-compatible cryptocurrency wallets, stating, “Receiving cryptocurrency payments has never been easier.”

    Simplifying Interaction
Nick Johnson, founder of ENS, stated that by pairing ENS domains with GoDaddy domains, “we will simplify the way users interact with internet domains, combining the familiarity of DNS with the potential of blockchain technology.”

This collaboration overcomes previous barriers such as high gas fees by deploying new smart contracts, enabling cost-free linking of DNS to ENS domains and improving the transition process.

ENS continues to work on integrating traditional internet technologies, including adding support for .box domains, which function similarly to standard internet domains.
