The proposal to bring permissionless transaction verification to Arbitrum passed the temperature check vote today (14th), meaning the Ethereum Layer 2 network with the highest Total Value Locked (TVL) is taking another step towards achieving Stage 2 Rollup.
Following the vote, Arbitrum is expected to propose upgrading its smart contracts to adopt BOLD governance proposals. BOLD is a new dispute resolution protocol that allows anyone to become a validator on Arbitrum and enhances the security of the Arbitrum chain by reducing the risk of delay attacks. Currently, validators for withdrawals from Arbitrum to the Ethereum base layer are restricted to a whitelist.
Arbitrum’s proposal stated:
BOLD went live on the Arbitrum testnet in April of this year. If the ArbitrumDAO approves the relevant proposal, BOLD is expected to be implemented on Arbitrum One and Nova at some point in the summer of 2024.
Similarly, competitor Optimism, which also utilizes Optimistic rollups, recently released Fault proofs on its Layer 2 blockchain OP Mainnet, advancing towards Stage 1 Rollup in decentralization like Arbitrum.
