According to reports from Iran International
The senior interrogators of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have been accused of orchestrating a major cryptocurrency theft, embezzling over $21 million in cryptocurrency during the investigation of the now-defunct exchange Cryptoland and its CEO, Sina Estavi.
Reportedly, these officials are affiliated with the IRGC’s intelligence and economic crime department, and they transferred assets seized from the exchange into wallets under their control, subsequently selling the tokens for profit under the guise of an anti-corruption investigation.
According to court documents, two senior officials from the IRGC’s economic intelligence department, Mehdi Hajipour and Mehdi Badi, are the masterminds behind this scheme. Blockchain evidence reported indicates that Hajipour alone controlled wallets that handled over $21 million worth of BRG (the native token of the Cryptoland platform). Prior to this theft, his total assets were valued at $40,000, but four months later, his wealth surged to over $14.2 million (600 billion rials), allegedly using the money to purchase gold, luxury homes, and high-end vehicles.
