Ripple to Launch EVM-Compatible Chain on XRPL in Q2 2023
Jaazi Cooper, the Product Management Director of blockchain development company Ripple, and Chief Technology Officer David Schwartz announced at the APEX 2025 event held in Singapore that the EVM-compatible chain of its decentralized Layer 1 blockchain XRP Ledger (XRPL) will go live in the second quarter of this year. This will enable Ethereum-based decentralized applications (dApps) and smart contracts to operate seamlessly within the XRPL ecosystem.
According to blockchain development company Peersyst Technology, the testnet for the “XRPL EVM sidechain” was launched earlier this year and is currently experiencing rapid growth.
The XRPL EVM test chain will provide users the opportunity to generate yields by interacting with DeFi applications (such as liquidity pools) and smart contracts. According to a previous report by Zombit, the sidechain will prioritize interoperability platform Axelar as the exclusive cross-chain bridge to acquire the native gas token eXRP from the XRPL network and connect with over 50 blockchains within the XRPL mainnet and the Axelar network.
