The Central Bank held a board meeting on Thursday (21st) and decided to raise the discount rate by half a percentage point, adjusting the rediscount rate from an annual interest rate of 1.875% to 2%, returning to the level of December 2008, demonstrating determination to combat inflation. Considering the proposed electricity price hike domestically, the Central Bank raised its CPI annual growth rate forecast for this year to 2.16%.
In addition, Central Bank Governor Yang Chin-lung also mentioned Bitcoin at a press conference after the meeting, but he only briefly described the risks of Bitcoin, saying “Bitcoin is like a roller coaster,” and reminding investors to “fasten their seat belts”.
