A lawyer told CoinDesk on Thursday that the UK Supreme Court has refused to allow Australian computer scientist Craig Wright to appeal the decision in his lawsuit against Peter McCormack.
In July last year, a panel of judges ruled that Wright was only entitled to £1 in damages in the defamation claim he brought against Bitcoin podcast host Peter McCormack. The case relates to Wright’s claim to be the inventor of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto, leading to him being jokingly referred to as “Faketoshi” by the crypto community.
This latest defeat for Wright comes as he is embroiled in another legal battle with some cryptocurrency companies and several Bitcoin developers.
On Thursday, Wright made a settlement offer aimed at resolving a long-standing dispute, alleging that the non-profit organization Cryptocurrency Open Patent Alliance (COPA) infringed his claimed copyrights to the Bitcoin white paper, blockchain database, and document format by accessing the Bitcoin network and its database in their work. COPA represents the 13 Bitcoin core developers named in Wright’s original legal complaint in 2016, as well as crypto-related companies like Coinbase and Block.
However, COPA rejected the settlement proposal, stating on X platform:
