Ethereum Layer 2 network zkSync announced on Wednesday (5th) that the zkSync Era protocol upgrade version v24 has completed the audit and will be deployed on the mainnet on June 6th. The native zkSync cross-chain bridge deposit and withdrawal functions will be temporarily suspended for 24 hours, but users can still bridge through third-party cross-chain protocols.
zkSync previously stated in mid-May that the upcoming v24 version is the final planned protocol upgrade before transferring network governance to the community, with the remaining missing parts expected to be in place by the end of June. These messages may suggest that zkSync’s highly anticipated native token will soon be released.
Foreign media “The Block” reported last month, citing sources, that zkSync aims to conduct a token airdrop around June 13th.
Recently, zkSync developer Matter Labs sparked controversy due to the claims by the cross-chain protocol Polyhedra Network that they intended to seize their token code “ZK”, and the company also faced criticism for their trademark registration behavior. Matter Labs later announced on Monday that they would abandon all trademark applications for the term “ZK”.
