With the theme “Innovation Without Borders,” ISC2024 attracted renowned researchers and industry experts from around the world dedicated to Web3 technology, Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT), and Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks (DePIN). During the conference, participants engaged in mutual exchange, shared cutting-edge projects and case studies, and provided valuable insights into the latest developments in these areas.
Professor Robbie Goh, Provost of SUSS, delivered a welcome address at the conference, emphasizing that blockchain technology and its broader Web3 ecosystem are similar to venturing into unknown territories. He stressed the importance of understanding the problems being addressed by the rise of financial technology, as it brings potential risks and consequences.
During the morning session, researchers from around the world presented ten selected academic paper abstract summaries designated by the International Scientific Conference (ISC) committee. These included topics such as the impact of decentralized finance (DeFi) on financial services and the skills required by professionals, the nature of decentralized autonomous organizations, and the design framework for a blockchain-based carbon trading system, among others.
The conference also featured industry exchange sessions in the afternoon, with speeches by SUSS Deputy Provost (Strategic Partnerships and Engagement) Associate Professor Justina Tan and Deborah Cleary, Head of Business Development at BBA, who outlined BBA’s global ecosystem, including its various initiatives and how members benefit from the network.
Distinguished speakers, including Zvi Wiener from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Philip Chmielewski from Loyola Marymount University, Jag Foo from Safeheron, and Leo Lin from Arkreen, presented keynote speeches on various topics related to financial technology and innovation.

One of the highlights of the conference was a fireside chat between Sopnendu Mohanty, Chief FinTech Officer of the Monetary Authority of Singapore, and Professor Guo Junquan, who discussed the importance of infrastructure in shaping the next generation of financial services and cross-border innovation. The event concluded with the presentation of academic exchange awards and the best abstract awards, recognizing outstanding contributions to the field of blockchain research.
The conference provided a vital platform for global experts, scholars, and practitioners in the blockchain field to exchange and share knowledge. It is believed that through such exchanges and collaborations, the development of blockchain technology will be further promoted, leading to a brighter future for the blockchain industry.
