User @NFTinfinityeth shared an incident today where they were demanded a hefty lawyer’s fee of $250,000 by Binance for receiving 2356 USDT. The incident involves allegations of receiving illicit funds and accuses Binance of inaction. Binance has not yet responded, raising concerns.
According to @NFTinfinityeth, a certain individual (Mr. I) claimed to have been hacked in March and May of 2023, resulting in the theft of approximately 1 million USDT worth of USDT and ETH. Among these funds, 2356 USDT was transferred to their Binance deposit address on June 23, 2023, making @NFTinfinityeth the defendant in this case.
However, Binance only notified them of this matter via email in 2024, stating that they must allocate 2356 USDT to the plaintiff. By that time, over a year had passed since the lawsuit was filed and the judgment had been made. @NFTinfinityeth had no chance to prove their innocence and had to accept the loss of 2356 USDT.
Thinking the case had ended, @NFTinfinityeth’s account was frozen by Binance again two days ago. The reason given by Binance’s legal team was that the remaining 90,000 USDT in @NFTinfinityeth’s Binance account might also be forfeited, in addition to the previously accepted 2356 USDT.
@NFTinfinityeth believes that the legal team is experienced and seems adept at initiating cross-border lawsuits against ordinary exchange users. On the other hand, although Binance did not proactively engage in any actions harming the user during this process, @NFTinfinityeth believes that Binance’s “passive” attitude in the face of legal proceedings has caused unfair losses to the user.
Currently, Binance has not responded to this matter, and @NFTinfinityeth has not explained whether the 2356 USDT, which led to all these problems, is indeed illicit funds. However, if the situation described by @NFTinfinityeth is true, it raises concerns about the possibility of unscrupulous law firms using this method to fabricate a coin theft incident, distribute funds to unsuspecting exchange user addresses, and then fraudulently demand lawyer’s fees from them.
