The head of the SBF case recently admitted in an interview with Bloomberg that the lawsuit was destined to lose from the beginning. David Mills, a professor at Stanford Law School, reflected on the SBF lawsuit, saying that even though he believed SBF might be innocent and had no criminal intent, winning the case was still a difficult task.
On the other hand, David Mills also suggested that SBF’s defense team should acknowledge the accusations of witnesses and prosecutors, and try to convince the jury that SBF did what they did to save the company from bankruptcy, insisting that there was no chance of winning by trying to convince the jury that everyone except SBF was lying. In addition, David Mills also stated that SBF was unwilling to follow his advice, and was the worst performer he had ever seen in cross-examination.
As for why he agreed to take on this case, David Mills revealed that it was purely out of friendship with SBF’s parents. It is reported that David Mills is a friend of Joseph Bankman and Barbara Fried, which is why he agreed to provide services for free. However, now that the case has ended in defeat, David Mills is worried that this friendship may also be shattered.
According to previous reports by Zombit, with a unanimous decision from the jury, FTX founder SBF was found guilty of all seven fraud and conspiracy charges brought against him. However, it is still unknown how long SBF will be imprisoned, as Judge Lewis Kaplan has scheduled SBF’s sentencing for March 28, 2024, at which time the judge will make the final decision on SBF’s sentence, and the prosecutor will make a recommendation.
