Previously, the U.S. Department of Justice proposed strongly opposing the judge’s decision to allow former Binance CEO Zhao Changpeng to leave the United States and return to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) which does not have an extradition agreement with the U.S. Prosecutors in the motion warned that given Zhao Changpeng’s substantial wealth, special citizenship status in the UAE, and the lack of an extradition agreement between the UAE and the U.S., allowing him to leave the U.S. could pose a flight risk. Additionally, prosecutors revealed the possibility of Zhao Changpeng being sentenced to a 10-year prison term in the motion. According to Reuters, Seattle District Judge Richard Jones ordered in a court document yesterday that the original decision to allow Zhao Changpeng to return to the UAE has been “suspended” until the judge makes a decision on the review motion submitted by the U.S. Department of Justice.
