According to a report from “The Block,” the trustee of the bankrupt Bitcoin exchange Mt.Gox, which collapsed in 2014, sent an email to creditors on Wednesday (22nd) stating that Mt.Gox plans to start repaying some creditors in cash “in the near future.”
The email indicates that the trustee is “working to start repaying in cash within the 2023 calendar year,” however, due to the large number of creditors involved, repayment may “continue into 2024.”
Trustee Nobuaki Kobayashi stated in the email:
Creditors can check the repayment status in the claims filing system.
In another document sent to creditors today, Kobayashi stated that on November 17, the trustee received a redemption amount of 7 billion Japanese yen (approximately $46.9 million) from trust assets for repayment. Following this redemption, the remaining amount in the trust assets is 8.8 billion Japanese yen.
This latest development appears to represent the first step in all repayments. In September of this year, the trustee changed the deadlines for base repayment, early lump-sum repayment, and intermediate repayment from October 31, 2023, to October 31, 2024.
According to previous reports from Zombit, the remaining amount to be paid by Mt.Gox is approximately 142,000 BTC, 143,000 BCH, and 69 billion yen.
