Recently, a cybersecurity company named Unciphered discovered a wallet vulnerability that could potentially impact billions of dollars worth of cryptocurrency assets, naming it “Randstorm”. The company pointed out that this vulnerability affects millions of cryptocurrency wallets generated using web browsers between 2011 and 2015.
Unciphered identified this vulnerability while attempting to recover a Bitcoin wallet and noted that the issue could impact millions of cryptocurrency wallets generated by BitcoinJS and its derivative projects. Unciphered issued a warning:
While the company stated that not all wallets generated within the specified timeframe have the same issue, it confirmed the existence and exploitability of the vulnerability. As a result, the company did not disclose any detailed information on exploiting the vulnerability to prevent malicious actors from taking advantage of these vulnerabilities.
Furthermore, the company added that multiple forked Bitcoin code blockchains and projects may also have the same issue, including Dogecoin, Litecoin, and Zcash.
