Recently, David Baszucki, the founder and CEO of the online game creation platform Roblox, discussed his “imagination” about the “movement of items and NFT between platforms” within Roblox, and proposed a theoretical use case.
Roblox earns hundreds of millions of dollars each season by selling digital currency for players to purchase game items on its closed platform. However, David Baszucki still envisions ultimately opening up the Roblox ecosystem to allow NFTs to be used on its platform and other platforms. He stated in an interview with CNBC:
With this kind of interoperability, digital assets like NFTs can operate and be used on different platforms, unlike the existing closed ecosystem. Baszucki expressed that he expects if interoperable NFTs are allowed on Roblox, creators, whether it be Elton John or Nike (examples he gave), “will play a key role in this process and have a significant degree of control.”
According to the financial report released by Roblox, the company’s revenue for the third quarter was $713.2 million, a 38% year-on-year increase. Bookings were $839.5 million, a 20% year-on-year increase. The average daily active users were approximately 70.2 million, a 20% year-on-year increase. Roblox’s “bookings” refer to the revenue generated from users purchasing “Robux” (the platform’s virtual currency).
