The ApeFest event hosted by the NFT issuer Yuga Labs of Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) in Hong Kong last weekend was held grandly, with the well-known Korean DJ “DJ SODA” invited to heat up the atmosphere. However, after the event ended, many participants experienced symptoms such as blurred vision and burning eyes.
Patients diagnosed with photokeratitis (also known as ultraviolet keratitis) after seeking medical attention, which is an eye-related disease caused by strong light/ultraviolet radiation. KOL CryptoFinally shared on Twitter that a similar situation occurred in 2017 when the trend information website HYPEBEAST held an event in Hong Kong, where discomfort was caused to guests and staff due to the installation of ultraviolet germicidal lamps instead of stage lights. It is currently unclear whether ApeFest also has the same issue.
In response to this incident, Yuga Labs issued a statement on the Bored Ape Yacht Club’s X account, urging those affected to seek medical attention promptly and stating that they will investigate the cause of the event.
